• Inground pool's ladder commonly has 1-5 steps, depending on the depth of the swimming pool while above ground pool's ladder is usually 2-4 steps. Always make sure that the pool ladder's size is compatible to your pool. 

• Concrete pools require the ladder and steps to be formed as the installation of the swimming pool is on going while in fiberglass or liner swimming pool, securing the lower and upper ends of the pool ladder is needed.

•  Pool ladders are not that costly. It is just needed to secure safety of your family and friends, especially the children who cannot get out of the water on the pool side.

2011 Swimming Pool Trends

Swimming pool, just like fashion has different trends each year. From designs to accessories, it changes every year and this year, to keep your pool place updated, here are this year's swimming pool trends:

• Colorful Lighting - Colorful lighting greatly adds beauty to any pool. Lighting the pool doesn't just make the pool splendid but safe as well. Today, colorful fiber optic lighting is the new trend. There are various colors to choose from. You can mix and match colors that will match the ambiance of your pool area. Black's Beach, to resume lifeguard services?

Black's Beach, located in San Diego decreased the lifeguard services last year to cut off their budget. Since then, lifeguards can only be seen in the stations during summer. But now, Black's Beach is planning to resume their FULL-TIME lifeguard services.

Last Tuesday, San Diego City Council, together with University of California San Diego (UCSD) supported a contract that indicates the resuming of the lifeguard services in Black's Beach. The contract states that the UCSD shall pay $502,000 for the lifeguard services to be resumed the whole year and there are options for extensions. The money will be used to pay the promoted full-time lifeguards since they will be back in an hourly-based employment. 

Also, under the deal, the following will be implemented:

• there will be 2 lifeguards that will staff the area to mid-June;
• 6 to patrol in the summer season; and
• UCSDs during the break of spring.

No vote was taken as of the moment because it is still under the City Council (which must take it twice before deciding). Formal approval will happen next Monday.

Swimming Pools in Britain, to be heated by the DEAD?

February 9, 2011 when a news in The New York Times stated that the British government are planning to heat the community swimming pools through the energy from a crematorium. 

The council members in Redditch, U.K. come up with this idea. According to them, the wasted heat from the crematory's incinerator will be diverted to the swimming pool next to the crematorium. In short, they want to keep the pool warm by using the body of the dead, scalding dead body, to be specific.

"I don't know how comfortable people would feel about the swimming pool being heated due to the death of a loved one, I think it's a bit strange and eerie," said Simon Thomas, a funeral director.

Another opinion given by Roger McKenzie, regional secretary for Unison, largest public sector union of Britain, said that this plan is “sick and an insult to local residents.”

On the other hand, the council said that this idea can save 14,500 British pounds (more than $22,000) every year. 

Perhaps, if this idea will be approved, maybe, the people must think that it will be the same idea of donating an organ from a the dead. Isn't it good to think that even the cold dead body can still give warmth?
